Leader of the Band
Fogelberg died
I love this song
Don't Mock Me!
okay.. you can mock me
if you want to..
An only child alone and wild
A cab'net maker's son
His hands were meant for diff'rent work
And his heart was known to none
He left his home
And went his lone and solitary way
And he gave to me a gift I know
I never can repay
A quiet man of music
Denied a simpler fate
He tried to be a soldier once
But his music wouldn't wait
He earned his love thru' discipline
A thund'ring velvet hand
His gentle means of sculpting souls
Took me years to understand
The leader of the band is tired
And his eyes are growing old
But his blood runs thru' my instrument
And his song is in my soul
My life has been a poor attempt
To imitate the man
I'm just a living legacy
To the leader of the band
My brother's lives were diff'rent
For they heard another call
One went to Chicago
And the other to St Paul
And I'm in Colorado
When I'm not in some hotel
Living out this life I've chose
And come to know so well
I thank you for the music
And your stories of the road
I thank you for the freedom
When it came my time to go
I thank you for the kindness
And the times when you got tough
And Papa I don't think I said
"I love you" near enough
The leader of the band is tired
And his eyes are growing old
But his blood runs thru' my instrument
And his song is in my soul
My life has been a poor attempt
To imitate the man
I'm just a living legacy
To the leader of the band
I am the living legacy
To the leader of the band

I would mock the hell out of you but I liked him as well.
Ha, ha!
Made me a little sad to hear that on the radio this morning.
Kathy and I probably saw him more than any other singer. We both loved his work, and I especially loved seeing his solo acoustic concerts.
My favorite song of his is Tuscon Arizona. He played every instrument on it himself!
A great talent. Loved his music.
I liked him and I liked that song. I live the part: I'm in Colorado/when I'm not in some hotel/living out this life I chose/and learned to know so well.
It is always sad to loose a talent. I envy people who can make the world a more warmer place because of their words of love. It saddened me to read of his passing.
I say we all chip in and donate to create a Dan Fogelberg memorial. You can all email the funds into my paypal account, and I'll get right on it eventually.
This sucks. I loved him, at my first wedding, I had one of his songs sung during the ceremony.
Off the top of my head I can't think of any other songs by him, but I definitely know "Leader of the Band". Great song.
That's a great song. My favorite has always been Same Old Lang Syne. He was awesome.
I won't mock you-I liked the guy as well, and this is a great song. Its even more meaningful now that he went.
