Well that would stink. Dwight's a major character. This is why NBC has such pathetic ratings. Bad decision making.
I don't even watch the Office that much, but I know that without Dwight, most of the comedic tension would be gone. Every show needs a good target.

Big Dwight is THE funniest character on TV. The Office is just OK imo, but that character makes me laugh almost immediately.
As the article mentioned comparing Dwight to Fraiser on Cheers, NBC got lucky with Fraiser...that is not the norm. Hard to ever find a supporting cast with that much talent and writing that rivals any TV show made.
Imo, when a popular character decides to jump shark and go solo, almost everytime it is career suicide. Watch reruns of MASH and ask yourself, "What happened to McLean Stevenson or Wayne Rogers?"
Think big picture "Dwight"! Don't jump shark--the probability of finding another TV show with the success of The Office is zero to none! Just ask Michael Richards or Jason Alexander!
