It's a lot of work for little payoff. If you enjoy sunflower seeds, the ones you have to shell, then you might like this fruit. All you do is suck the jelly off of all those seeds and then you spit 'em out. I like the taste, but I don't like all the work. I just drink some Pom juice every once in awhile.
You do not have to spit out the seeds. And the term "jelly" is a huge misnomer. It isn't gelatinous. If you decide to try one (they won't be in season until November) the best way to get to the fruit is as follows:
Score the skin. Soak the whole thing in water for a few minutes and then break it apart under water. Continue to pull the skin away under the water. The fruit will sink and you can skim the rest off the top. It makes for little juice mess.
Martha Stewart does it all wrong. She chops at it with a knife and a wooden spoon. Seriously? I love them.
They are very tasty and funm too. Before eating, set up a bulls-eye target about 10 feet from where you are sitting. As you suck the fruit off the seeds, spit them at the target. Fun for the whole family. Low score has to clean up.
They taste like hamburgers. No really-kinda like a mix of two fruits to me like rasberry and grapes, but not so sweet of course. Haven't had one in a long time so maybe my memory fails me.

Same here
If they're ripe, they are actually quite good. But it's a weird fruit. It's like eating corn that is fruit.
They're kinda difficult to eat-or at least get a good mouthful of. Its time-consuming. Taste ok, I guess.
I like em. Worth a try at the very least.
I love em- but don't like the seeds. It's a lot of work to get anything really.
