After World War II this use ceased and the island

"Inhabitants of Narragansett Bay from October through April.
Each fall, harbor seals migrate south from Maine and the Atlantic Provinces
of Canada following their prey to the warmer waters and protected harbors

SEAL WATCH MADE ME THINK OF...

So a Penguin's car just konks out and he's stranded by the side of the road until a tow truck just happens by. He hitches a ride and has his car towed into to town. Once there, a mechanic begins to look it over with the penguin impatiently looking on. The mechanic says, "It'll be a bit before I can say what's wrong. Go enjoy our town and come back a bit later." SO the Penguin wanders off and finds an ice cream shop. It being warm and he being a Penguin, he eats the nice cold ice cream. But without hand he has to slam his face into the cone and so the ice cream gets all over his face. Afterward, he waddles back to the garage and the mechanic looks up and says, "Looks like you blew a seal." The embarrassed Penguin wipes at his face and stammers, "No, no. It's just ice cream."

Memories of Narragansett Bay, and the Navy Base. Newport was home port for 3 years back in the early '60s. The only bridge I remember was the ... hmmm .. was it the Mount Hope Bridge we crossed back in the day?

Strange thing is ..I've seen my share of sea gulls, dolphins and flying fish, but I don't recall the seals.
