FACT: Chips was the Coolest TV Show of the late 70's early 80's
First Telecast: September 15, 1977 Last Telecast: July 17, 1983

Who Didn't Love This Show as a Kid?
You Loved it - You Know You Did.

Everybody Loves Ponch!

"Plot Outline: "CHiPS," which stood for California Highway Patrol,
followed the daily beats of two state motorcycle patrolmen as they patrolled the freeway system in and around Los Angeles.
Frank "Ponch" Poncherello and Jon Baker were partners and officers with the California Highway Patrol. Together they cruised the highways and interstates in the Los Angeles area, stopping speeders and car thieves, helping stranded motorists, assisting paramedics at accident scenes
and occasionally investigating crimes.
They also became involved in many chases--this series could usually be counted on to provide at least one multi-vehicle interstate pile-up per episode."

I loved Ponch. What a stud. I always thought I would marry him.

But I thought better as I got older because I wouldn't marry a policeman (too dangerous and their never home).

So sorry Ponch I've moved on.

My favorite part of the show was the 1970s "B" porno theme music which was later outdone by the "A" porno theme music of Miami Vice. 1. One White Guy 2. One Not so White Guy and 3. Porno Music...
the ingredients for a successful cop show.

I always liked Jon Baker better.

Why was the Highway Patrol doing investigative work again?

I never watched C.H.I.P.S. But I lived in a house in college and we hung a poster of Ponch next to Jesus and everybody had a decent laugh

CHiPS was the show that made police uniforms sexy. No-one ever looked that fine in Hill Street Blues.

I see Estrada daily selling California Pines and other land ventures on informercials. He started in CA, then moved up to WA. Next it's Nevada I think.

They shot most of the highway scenes on the now 118 Freeway (Ronald Reagan) before it was completed. It was the perfect highway--it wasn't completed so they could stage whatever they wanted. Look at the background...like a cartoon, it was always the same...they only had a few miles to work with!

The real question is if CHIPS is going to be a movie, who's being cast as Ponch?

I have a scarry feeling it's Colin Ferrel.

I've heard rumors of Wilmer Valderamma (sp?) as Ponch and it's only a matter of time before it gets made into a movie - unless this summer's "Miami Vice" bombs badly which just might happen.

Hmmm...I'm guessing both of those guys made at least one appearance on Battle of the Network Stars.

That theme music was what it was all about.
